Wind flow regimes with different initial conditions.
In this section, we use a reference flow, namely ¨ an easterly flow of 10m/s ¨ with an ICAO profile ¨ over a 600m hill and ¨ with moderate friction, z0 = 0.25m.
Note the increase to 15-20m/s in flow just above the upper lee slope and the slower speeds near the surface (mainly due to surface friction) but also a blocking effect on the windward slopes.
In each of the other panels, one feature alone has been changed, eg Wind shear introduced , or lesser friction, or more stable lapse rate, or an inversion just above mountain top, or a mountain with higher peak, or a mirror image of the topography. |
